3 crucial steps to take when you feel stuck

If there is one guarantee life has to offer, it’s that you will face many, many challenges throughout your journey. The size of those challenges will vary and how you handle each one will vary as well. For each of us, there will come a time when we find ourselves facing a challenge that leaves us feeling like we have no control over what’s going on in our lives. You could find yourself in a relationship or health rut, working in an uninspired environment or feeling incredibly undervalued.

You try everything in your power to move forward and nothing happens. You try harder and still, nothing. You feel stuck, out of options and more dangerously, out of hope. Before you settle into desperation and mediocrity, here are 3 crucial steps you must take to help you get unstuck.

1. Acceptance

This is a dangerous word for anyone looking for change. It implies that you should do nothing. It implies that you should stay where you are. It implies that nothing will change. I actually view acceptance as one of the most powerful actions a person can take while facing a challenge. Whatever it is you’re going through, accept that you are not a victim of your current circumstance. Accept that nothing lasts forever; it will either end or transform into something else. It cannot stay the same. Take comfort in this. Another thing to keep in mind is that whatever is happening is happening for a reason. Be alert, there are valuable lessons to be learned.

2. Take back your power

As much as life is filled with challenges, it is also filled with choices. No matter how powerless you feel in the face of a challenge, you do have the power to choose how you will react. Some people live as though nothing is a miracle. Others live as though everything is a miracle (Albert Einstein). It is always a matter of choice. You choose whether to get out of bed or not, you choose whether you’ll go about your day with a smile or a frown. You choose what you say and how you say it. You choose.

3.Thrive

If there is one life lesson that will always be relevant no matter what age or stage of your life you’re in, it’s that you cannot control another person’s actions. There is only one person you can control, and that’s you. That being said, you need to take your mind off whatever challenge you’re facing and focus on yourself. The fact is, you have the power to thrive wherever you are and whatever your current circumstance is. Choose to be better. Choose to be great. Not for anyone else but for yourself. As Steve Martin says, “Be so good they can’t ignore you."

One last thing, something usually happens in the midst of the three steps listed above –a solution presents itself.
