Yearly style round up – 2011 in trends, hits and fashion stories
Posted on December 30 2011
2011 was no doubt a very stylish year in fashion. It was filled with trips taken back in time for style inspiration. In just a few seasons, we visited the 50s, 60s, 70s and even the 80s, taking the best from each era. As we moved through the year, we borrowed from the boys and added a feminine twist, relaxed in colored denim, glittered and sparkled in sequins, went edgy in leather and color blocked ensembles; wild in animal print, ethereal in white, ladylike in peplum and full skirts, popped in gorgeous and shocking color; we went crazy for polka dots and floral print, stayed casual cool in stripes and so much more. Take a trip down memory lane with us as we relive this past year’s most stylish and fashionable looks and trends.
This trend belonged to the risk-takers and this past season, thanks to fashion houses like Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Designers like Sonia Rykiel, we were re-introduced to a really bold alternative. From Rihanna to Olivia Wilde, Jennifer Lopez and Iman, those who dared, rocked this trend to perfection.
Borrowing from the boys
From Boyfriend Jackets to tuxedo-inspired pieces, suspenders, watches and oversized shirts, we found our way to make these classic menswear pieces our own without skipping a fashionable beat.
White hot in Hollywood
White was most definitely the hottest color of the spring and summer seasons. This effortlessly chic color which works pretty much on everyone was out in full force. From sexy sheaths to suits, mini dresses, blouses and jeans, there was no going wrong with white this year.
The beauty in color…
With spring came an assortment of bold colors including orange and cobalt blue. Summer followed with gorgeous marigold and shocking green and fall ushered in deep red, metallics and pastels.
From polka dots to stripes, floral and zigzag prints, it was a year of memorable patterns in fashion.
Leather and Lace…
2011 celebrated the delicateness of lace and the refinement and edginess of leather. From red carpet events to street style, both were everywhere from spring to fall.
Chic to be a lady…
One of the most exciting transformations this year was the return to lady like dressing. From peplum style skirts, full skirts, gorgeously light pastel colors to tailored coats, this year solidified that it is always chic to dress like a lady.
Ending the year with a little sparkle…
We bring 2011 to a close with the help of a little sparkle and a lot of shine. Sequin minis, dresses and accessories were must-haves for this holiday season and we honestly couldn’t think of a better way to end such a chic year.
A note from the Editor –
I’d like to say thank you to all of you for letting the Rue de Chic Blog be a part of your year. It’s such an exciting feeling to be able to share my passion for fashion and style with you through this avenue. As we prepare to step into another fabulous year, I look forward to introducing some amazing new things that I have planned for the blog and site in general. I’m a big believer in constantly striving to be your best self and living your best life both on the inside and outside. This is my greatest wish for you all as we embark on 2012.
“Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do.” – Marianne Williamson
